Our Crew

We believe that the best way to ensure you have an exceptional river rafting trip is to have exceptional rafting guides and staff. All of our certified, professional river rafting guides are friendly and interested in providing you with a great river rafting experience in British Columbia.

Our rafting guides all have a thorough knowledge of on Vancouver Island's natural and cultural history. They are happy to share their experiences with you during your river rafting tour. Our guide training philosophy ensures that you will have a fun and memorable British Columbia river rafting trip.

At a minimum, our rafting guides hold the following
certification level (or equivalent):

  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician
  • Standard first aid (most hold Wilderness, O.E.C. or Industrial levels)
  • certified, professional rafting guide

Our Crew for the 2013 Season (so far.....)

Master Guide & Trip Leader

Jamie is the company owner and operations manager.  He started his river guiding career with Destiny River in 2000. He is a SAR team leader, rope rescue leader and instructor for swiftwater safety courses.  Jamie is also a certified red seal chef and will look after your appetite on our multi-day expeditions!

Trip Leader

Kaitlyn is the new river manager for Destiny.  She completed her guide training with Outward Bound, then paddled back east for a few years.  She guided for Destiny in 2010 and trained and guided in Australia in 2011.  She returned in 2012 to take up a more challenging role with Destiny.

Master Guide & Trip Leader

Jim is the company founder and started his river guiding career in 1984. Jim is a Master Instructor for swiftwater safety courses and a fish & wildlife technician with 12 years experience managing BC provincial parks. He was the Provincial Rafting Regulations Officer prior to starting Destiny River Adventures.  Jim is the Executive Director of the BC River Outfitters Association and a director on the BC Wilderness Tourism Association.

Guide

Shelby comes to us all the way from Adelaide, Australia. Shelby has always been a water baby and discovered her passion for white water paddling four years ago when working for an outdoor education outfit in Victoria, Australia. She participated in rafting & kayaking guide school and has been paddling ever since. Shelby permanently moved to Canada in 2012. She is a member of the local Search and Rescue and ski patrol.

Trip Leader

Jake started working with Destiny in 2003.  He has finished his training in avionics at BCIT and is working full time in his field.  He has returned as a weekend warrior for Destiny again in 2013.

Guide

Brandon had his first rafting trip when he was 3 years old.  He has been actively working with Destiny since 2000 running gear boats and support services until he was certified as a guide in 2004.  Brandon has a Honours BASc in Mechatronics Engineering from UWaterloo and has completed his Masters in Electrical Engineering.

Master Guide & Trip Leader

John has been guiding since almost all the rest of the crew were babies.  He is a avid kayaker and comes out to play on the river with us for guest appearances as our witty and sarcastic elder stateman.

Driver

Glenn joined Destiny as a driver in 2010.  He worked with us on the Olympics and is learning to play the Scottish pipes.  Glenn also drives bus for the ski hill in the winter months.

Anne joined the team as a part-time driver in 2011 and quickly fit right in with the crew.

Dean joined Destiny as our main bus driver in 2008 for a few years and now drives part- time. Ask him how the swimming is at the Nimpkish take-out....
